Littlefoot provides proof of delivery for Amtrak

Littlefoot, the automated data collection specialist, has helped to develop a sophisticated proof of delivery system for Amtrak Express Parcels. The new solution is based on two-dimensional barcodes, and uses Dolphin 7300 mobile computers, supplied by HHP and equipped with specialist software developed by Littlefoot.

Amtrak`s new system forms part of a major investment programme in IT, designed to consolidate and extend the company`s success within the UK.

Littlefoot`s role was to develop software that provides an effective proof of delivery system and that incorporates the full UK postcode database.

This enables Amtrak`s drivers to use the mobile computers to check the address on any parcel – which in turn improves the efficiency and speed of deliveries.

Phil Young, Amtrak`s Head of IT, comments: “We have piloted the new system at three of our depots, and it is already making our drivers` jobs much easier. We have already established a powerful reputation for the high quality of our service throughout the UK. The new system will be one of the contributing factors in allowing us to maintain this focus on service. By developing the software, Littlefoot has made an important contribution to our continuing drive towards even greater success in the future.”

Michael Boxwell, Managing Director of Littlefoot, says: “We were delighted to have been chosen to design the software for this important project. The new proof of delivery system will further enhance Amtrak`s productivity, profitability, and customer service levels. Ultimately, it enables the company to get the right parcels to the right address in a shorter time.”
