Hermes: providing emission-free delivery in more and more cities

Hermes is pushing ahead with its commitment to green city logistics. In the city of Reutlingen as well as in Pfullingen and Lichtenstein, nine new electric vehicles have been in use since mid-August, moving an average of 1,200 shipments a day over 810 kilometers without emissions.

They replace previously used diesel vans. That means a saving of almost 70 tons of CO 2 per year . Especially in Reutlingen, which is heavily polluted with nitrogen dioxide, the expansion of emission-free delivery is an important signal in terms of sustainability. In the near future, Hermes will further intensify green delivery in other cities in the Stuttgart region.

“We are pleased that we can successfully promote emission-free delivery in more and more cities,” says Marco Schlüter , Chief Operations Officer of Hermes Germany. “We are bringing more and more electrically powered vehicles onto the roads across Germany, thereby reducing CO 2 emissions. For us, electromobility is a crucial lever for our vision of sustainable city logistics.

”The electrification of the vehicle fleet is an important step for the parcel service provider everywhere, but especially in cities such as Reutlingen that are heavily polluted by air. Reutlingen is among the ten German cities with the highest average nitrogen dioxide values per cubic meter of air in 2019 and 2020  – the need for action is correspondingly great.”
