Poczta Polska expands its low-emission urban logistics initiatives

Poczta Polska and Groclin – the only Polish manufacturer of hydrogen-powered bicycles – are launching a pilot project of hydrogen technology in urban logistics. The project aims to test the feasibility of using hydrogen bicycles in the daily work of postmen.

Poczta Polska will be the first postal operator in Central and Eastern Europe to test hydrogen-powered bicycles in real-world conditions. The pilot will assess the technology’s functionality, reliability, and potential for use in last-mile logistics.

As part of the project, selected Polish Post units will be included in a testing program that will assess, among other things, the range of the vehicles, the time it takes to prepare the vehicle for work, including replacing or refilling hydrogen tanks, reliability, comfort of use, and the usefulness of the bicycles in the daily work of postmen.

” The hydrogen bike tests are part of Poczta Polska’s efforts to find modern, low-emission solutions for urban logistics. At the same time, they provide an opportunity to verify this technology in real-world operating conditions. This initiative is part of Poczta Polska’s new mobility development program. It is a structured program of testing vehicles using modern power sources, which aims to improve the quality of work and the economics of transport,” said Sławomir Żurawski, Vice President of Poczta Polska for Operations.

The pilot is currently in a testing phase. Its goal is to assess the technology’s suitability in real-world operational conditions and to collect data that will allow for the assessment of the feasibility of any further actions.

” The launch of the pilot project with Poczta Polska is an important step for us in the development of hydrogen technology for urban logistics. Tests carried out in real operational conditions will allow us to verify the capabilities of our solutions and gather the experience necessary for the further development of this technology” – Michał Seidel, President of the Management Board of Groclin Sp. z o. o.

The pilot results will be used to assess the potential of using hydrogen technology in urban logistics and further directions of development of solutions supporting sustainable transport.
