Danzas Acquires Vindo Logistik from Philips
The Danzas Group has taken over Vindo Logistik, a subsidiary of Philips Austria
Vindo Logistik für Handel und Industrie GesmbH, a subsidiary of Philips Austria domiciled in Laxenburg near Vienna, has been taken over in its entirety by Danzas. The acquisition will take effect on January 01, 2000.
Basel, November 19, 1999. The Austrian company, founded in 1961 as “Eurocenter Laxenburg” and renamed “Vindo Logistik” in 1989, is the central hub for goods and material deliveries of the Philips factories in Austria as well as for domestic distribution. Many consignments to and from Eastern Europe also pass through the facility on the outskirts of Vienna.
As the longstanding provider of logistics services for Philips Austria, Vindo has accumulated a great deal of know-how in the fields of worldwide procurement and distribution logistics, import and export in Central and Eastern Europe, customs brokerage, etc. In recent years it has also performed these functions increasingly for customers outside the Philips group (e.g. within the framework of outsourcing activities). In 1998 Vindo’s workforce of about 170 people generated sales equivalent to about CHF 60 million.
Philips took the decision to sell off the wholly owned subsidiary as part of its corporate strategy of concentrating on the group’s core competences, which do not include logistics and freight forwarding activities. Acquisition by an international specialist in the logistics sector will ensure the successful continuation of Vindo Logistik’s services. The company’s employees will be taken on by the new owner.
The acquisition of Vindo also suits Danzas’s corporate strategy, one element of which is expansion of logistics activities in Central Eastern Europe. By acquiring Vindo, Danzas will strengthen its positions in both the Austrian market for procurement and distribution logistics and the logistics market in Eastern Europe.
