Trans-o-flex expands operations in Netherlands and Germany

Austria Post’s German express subsidiary trans-o-flex has established a new central hub in the Netherlands and two new service facilities in southern and eastern Germany. The company said the hub in s’Hertogenbosch, in the south of the Netherlands, and the sites in Bavaria and Brandenburg would provide more capacity, improved transportation routes and more flexibility in deliveries within metropolitan areas.

The new locations were set up in time for the peak season for the transport business, trans-o-flex said this week.

The central hub for the Netherlands has been operating since the beginning of the month, while operations are set to start up at Bergkirchen, west of Munich, and at Trebbin, in the Brandenberg district, on September 3.

Trans-o-flex is also expanding its existing site in Bruchsal, near the western German border, for completion in October.

Wolfgang Weber, trans-o-flex managing director, said the new sites were added as part of the company’s continuing network expansion, to relieve pressure on the company’s existing sites and particularly improve the flexibility of services in metropolitan areas.

“We are shortening the way to the last mile,” he said, “which allows us to organise express deliveries more easily.”

Dutch hub

Trans-o-flex said its new central hub at s’Hertogenbosch would help take the strain from its operations in Cologne and Duisburg.

The facility will speed up transport and sorting processes for the company’s Dutch services and improve the flow of goods from Belgium to the Netherlands and Germany.

The 5,000 square metre hall has 34 processing lines and 20 docking bays, and includes includes fully automated package sorting systems designed for continuous operation to process 5,000 packages each hour.

Operations are getting underway at the hub in stages, with the first few weeks seeing pickup and delivery functions starting up in the Eindhoven area, while next month will see shipments from Holland routed through the hub, before the facility becomes a central point for shipments from Germany to the Netherlands.

German expansion

The new site at Bergkirchen will relieve the strain from trans-o-flex operations in Munich and Augsburg with a new 6,800 square metre transfer station providing 21 docking bays.

The Trebbin site will include a 4,200 square metre hall with six bays.

The company’s Bruchsal facility is being expanded to add 1,700 square metres of additional space, a 60% increase in capacity to add capacity for an additional 12 trucks.

“With this expansion, we are responding to the continuously increasing volumes in our Bruchsal accounts, and creating capacity for future growth,” Weber explained.
