Strong opposition to plans to split up the Austrian Post Office

Strong opposition is forming against plans to split Österreichische Post AG into five independent company divisions. Trade unionists fear that splitting up the company will lead to a loss of independence and that a lot more than the hitherto announced 6,000 jobs could be axed. The letter division was the only profitable unit at present and therefore capable of surviving on its own – as long as the monopoly remains in place. The five intended divisions are letters, courier-express-parcel, info mail, media post and post office counter network.
