Exel Direct wins distribution and fulfillment contract with Miele
German appliance manufacturer Miele has entered into a product distribution agreement with Exel Direct, the big-ticket product fulfillment business unit of global supply chain provider Exel. (2/27/2002)
The network solution improves the European manufacturer’s distribution network in the United States, resulting in significant cost savings, decreased cycle times and improved customer service.
Miele exports high-end appliances, floor care products and accessories from its European manufacturing facilities to its U.S. distribution center in Keasbey, N.J.
As part of the Exel Direct solution, shipments of orders bound for the southeast United States will be received at Port Everglades, Fla., and routed to an Exel-managed distribution center in Pompano Beach, Fla. Exel Direct will sort the orders and transport them to retail centers and builder outlets throughout the region.
“We partnered with Exel Direct because they are able to provide us with a fully-integrated supply chain solution,” said Werner Goldbach, Miele’s vice president of finance and administration. “We are growing very fast in the U.S. market and our logistics requirements are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Exel Direct will provide us with a one-stop shopping solution to support our continued growth.”
“Our involvement with Miele’s distribution network vastly improves service to its Florida customers and opens up new selling channels in that region,” Mussa said. “This distribution network will naturally drive operational costs out of Miele’s supply chain through improved efficiencies and direct hands-on involvement of product fulfillment orders.”
Furthermore, Exel Direct’s nationwide product distribution capabilities represent a strong model for growth as Miele continues to add retailer and builder selling channels across the United States.
