DHL Express launches carbon reporting services in US

DHL Express has launched two new carbon reporting services for customers looking to monitor and reduce their climate change impact. The international express shipping company said the expansion of its GoGreen service would mean a “growing priority” of many businesses to be more environmentally responsible.

The two new carbon reporting services are called GoGreen Carbon Estimate and GoGreen Carbon Footprint.

The Carbon Estimate service provides customers with an estimate of their carbon dioxide emissions over the most recent three-month time period, based on average carbon emission factors around the world. The estimate can help customers with their own forecasting and reporting.

The Carbon Footprint service provides a detailed picture of customers’ actual carbon dioxide footprint, measuring emissions at the trade lane, product, mode of transport, account and shipment level for a whole calendar year.

DHL Express said its carbon emissions calculation processes were verified by the independent Swiss company Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS).

SGS is an auditor that complies with the principles of the ISO 14064 standard.

Ian Clough, the DHL Express chief executive, said: “DHL empowers its customers to make environmentally responsible transportation decisions. The DHL GoGreen portfolio of services provides customers with an accurate, transparent view of their carbon footprint, and enables them to offset their CO2 emissions in projects that support their own sustainability mandates.”

DHL Express already provides a GoGreen Carbon Neutral service, which allows customers to offset the carbon emissions of their shipments.

Since its launch in 2006, DHL said its GoGreen services have offset more than 270,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions for shipments around the world.
