TNT UK upgrades tracking systems “in record time” with Peak-Ryzex

Carrier TNT UK says it has deployed thousands of new mobile computer systems in record time to improve visibility of its shipments.

The company said in a video interview that its partnership with Peak-Rynex involved provision of 10,000 devices, including 2,500 new Zebra PDAs.

The deal was one of the largest mobile managed services (MMS) contracts signed in the UK, the companies claimed.

TNT uses the devices across its network of 55 depots in the UK, automating real-time consignment tracking and providing electronic proof of delivery by capturing customers’ signatures on receipt.

Simon Harper, Director of Operations at TNT UK, said it was “absolutely critical” in today’s markets to provide complete visibility of what is happening to customers’ shipments every step of the way.

“Our sales people are out there seeing our customers, in and out of our depots, they need to be mobile and connected with the rest of the business, as do our colleagues from one warehouse to another, as do our drivers as well,” Harper continued.

Improvements

Wiltshire-based Peak-Ryzex won the contract to upgrade in-cab mobile worker technologies for the TNT fleet early last year. The deal was to supply high-speed wireless connections between TNT depots and drivers, while giving greater access to real-time tracking information.

Harper said Peak-Ryzex had delivered the mobile solution quickly, getting the new equipment and new capability out to the depots “in record time”, quicker than TNT could have achieved on its own.

“We have already seen improvements in our first time barcode label scanning rates across the entire network – we’re talking thousands of people who’ve engaged with the equipment and the business transformation plans,” said Harper. This is very important to us because it makes TNT more cost-effective and improves our service to our customers.”
