TTPost implements new Tobago postal codes

Trinidad & Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPost) has been rolling out its new postal codes for Tobago. Speaking at a briefing to launch the postal codes last week, the Minister of Public Utilities, Nizam Baksh, said: “We are making a clean break with the old and highly unreliable system of casually locating addresses and moving up to the international standard of postal addressing used all over the developed world.”

Postal cards are now being delivered to all residents across Tobago to inform them of their new postal address.

In an email sent to Post&Parcel yesterday (3 August), a spokesperson for the postal operator commented: “TTPost has implemented and is in the process of distributing an S42 standard format of addressing throughout Tobago, where buildings were numbered sequentially with odd numbers on the left and even numbers on the right. The new format includes a postal code which is a six-digit figure which represents the postal boundaries within Tobago.”

As previously reported, TTPost first announced the launch its six-digit postal code system for twin-island state of Trinidad and Tobago in 2012. Trinidad has been divided into 64 postal districts, while Tobago (much the smaller of the two islands) has eight.
