UPS announces plans for new Arizona hub

UPS is planning a new hub in Goodyear, Arizona, which it says will ramp up processing capacity for e-commerce. In a statement issued on its website yesterday (1 June), UPS said: “E-commerce already has changed the local landscape as UPS expands its capability for Saturday ground delivery and pickup service that began last month in Mesa and starts this Saturday, June 3, in Phoenix. These Saturday services will continue to expand as the new Goodyear facility is completed.”

The hub is being built in a “phased construction”. A portion of the building is expected to begin operating later this year in time for the busy holiday peak season. Completion is slate for late 2019.

“The decision by UPS to establish a regional operations centre in Greater Phoenix is indicative of the growing e-commerce industry,” said Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “The Goodyear location along the Loop 303 offers a strategic geography to place UPS in proximity to a large consumer base, as well as add a considerable number of jobs to our market.”
