GATS opens hub in Dubai

GATS (Global Alliance of Transportation Systems) is pleased to announce the
opening of its third mail transfer Hub at Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

The establishment of the Hub, which will operate under a Business Service Agreement between Emirates Post and GATS, concludes a successful trial period which commenced during 2002. The Dubai Hub is excellently located to serve all of its neighbouring countries, and provides its postal partners with an important transit hub to and from Europe and the Far East. GATS Dubai will support national postal administrations around the world, by offering a range of cost effective and advantageous mailing solutions to and from this Region.
In conjunction with Emirates Post, GATS (Global Alliance of Transportation Systems) is opening its third Hub in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Service Agreement was signed in Berne today by Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, and Dr. Ulrich Gygi, Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Post. Commenting at the signing ceremony, Dr. Gygi remarked that “the GATS Transfer Hub in Dubai is a well run facility and is just what we are looking for to expand our operations between Europe, the Middle East and Far East”.
The new airmail hub in Dubai is strategically and centrally located to serve the entire Gulf Region, having excellent connections to Europe, Africa and the Far East. GATS will enhance its current network by offering national postal administrations around the world with an effective and efficient mail aggregation and transfer network into and out of the Gulf Region. After successful pilot trials, the Dubai hub will be fully operational from 26th October 2003, handling sealed mail bags which will be scanned, sorted and conveyed to the global GATS network by Emirates Post. GATS is providing Emirates Post with an innovative software system to register mailbags in a web-based environment. Postal customers can track individual bags through the GATS password-protected internet site.

Under the agreement, GATS will also support Emirates Post with regional sales and marketing activities.
Expansion of existing network The GATS network already provides daily containerised and non-containerised airmail services to postal gateways throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim. Most recently GATS signed a Business Partner Agreement with Jamaica Post Corporation to open in September 2003 a first network hub in the Caribbean. GATS also relocated its London Hub operations into an airside location at Heathrow during September. This exclusive airside mail transfer hub enhances GATS’ current operations and provides postal customers with improved transfer times for mailbags arriving on international flights.

GATS’ expansion strategy is based on extending its global network and will be enhanced with the coming on line of additional hubs in the next twelve months in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
