Hellmann is dedicated to going worldwide

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is setting up a dedicated division focusing totally on integrated logistics services.
Hellmann Integrated Logistics Solutions will be headquartered in Miami and headed by Michael Claus, MD of Hellmann Network Inc, but will operate globally.

Jost Hellmann, managing partner of the group, said integration supply chain solutions were in growing demand from customers.

Judge will decide DHL case

An administrative law judge will resolve the dispute over the ownership of DHL Airways as part of an amendment to the USD79 billion Wartime Supplemental Appropriations bill approved by the House and Senate on Saturday. The amendment, sponsored by Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, also prohibits DHL Airways from carrying Defense Department cargo for the next six months. DHL had no comment on the amendment. UPS said it “reaffirms UPS’s longstanding concern regarding Deutsche Post’s ownership and control of DHL Airways.” UPS added that it looks forward to “the expeditious appointment of an administrative law judge.”

Threat to European jobs as DHL moves in on Airborne

Anxiety about job security is mounting among Airborne staff in Europe in the wake of DHL’s proposed acquisition of the company. DHL would not confirm the scale of any redundancies if the deal gets the goahead from regulators. But at a meeting with senior management from both companies in London on 4 April, Airborne’s European managers expressed concern that many jobs would go and most Airborne offices in Europe would close. The meeting was told that the acquisition was 90% certain to get past the authorities, and while the best staff would be retained, there could be no guarantee that any jobs were safe.

Latvijas Pasts postal company shareholders general meeting Monday dismissed from the office company director general Aivars Droiskis and two board members over entering in disadvantageous contracts for construction of sorting facility for the postal company. Latvia’s Transport Ministry deputy state secretary Uldis Laksevics, acting as Latvijas Pasts shareholders general meeting, told reporters Monday the sorting complex arrangements “were highly unsuccessful”.

Yamato Transport to double parcel collection points to counter Japan Post

Yamato Transport Co plans to double the number of its parcel collection points to 5,000 in five years in an effort to better compete with Japan Post, which operates about 24,700 post offices nationwide, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing company sources. Yamato hopes to set up more collection points in shops and other convenient locations and establish new offices dedicated to its direct mail service.
