The Pallet Network (TPN) will add 50% this year
The Pallet Network, based in Leicester, says its 78 strong network handles 3,000 pallets a night. It predicts it will grow to 4,500 a night later this year.
Jon Lewis Transport, running 14 trucks from Alcester, Warwickshire, is one of 7 new members. Jon Lewis, which joined last month, covers several B and WR postcodes and is in a network for the first time.

UK Postcomm chairman Corbett reappointment

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Patricia Hewitt, has confirmed that Postcomm Chairman Graham Corbett is to be reappointed for one year. Mr Corbett indicated last July that he would be willing to accept an extension of his appointment for no more than one year from 1 April 2003 so he could oversee the completion of the ground-breaking phase of Postcomm’s work.

Last gasp bid to settle UK Royal Mail price row

Last ditch efforts will be made today to prevent the dispute between Royal Mail and the postal regulator over letter prices from being referred to the Competition Commission for a six-month inquiry. Adam Crozier, the Royal Mail’s new chief executive, is to meet the full board of commissioners at Postcomm in a final attempt to reach agreement on the proposed 1p increase in first and second class postage prices. Royal Mail has until midnight tomorrow to decide whether to accept Postcomm’s three-year price curbs or appeal to the Competition Commission.

UK Government will not renew regulator's contract

Graham Corbett, the postal regulator criticised for bringing Royal Mail to the brink of bankruptcy, will not have his contract renewed by the government.

The decision, expected to be confirmed in a House of Commons statement today, is widely viewed in the industry as a sign that ministers wish to see a new era of lighter-touch regulation. However, Mr Corbett, 68, insists he intended to stand down at the end of his three-year term as chairman of the Postal Services Commission.

Jury judgment sees FedEx pay $1.6m in US

A landmark $1.6 million jury judgment has been made against Federal Express Corporation for denying a cargo claim in bad faith. The jury awarded Power Standards Lab, a tiny manufacturer of electronic equipment in Emeryville, California, compensatory and punitive damages against FedEx.

FedEx Corp. Net Income Increases 23% in Third Quarter

FedEx Corp. reported the following consolidated results for the third quarter:
Revenue of $5.55 billion, up 10% from $5.02 billion the previous year, operating income of $269 million, up 14% from $237 million a year ago and net income of $147 million, up 23% from last year’s $120 million.
For the third quarter, FedEx Express reported revenue of $4.06 billion, up 8% from last year’s $3.78 billion and operating income of $133 million, down 8% from $145 million a year ago.
