Australia Post Signs Deal With American Express

Australia Post has beefed-up its service offering, striking a deal with American Express enabling customers to access travellers cheques and foreign exchange through 2,900 postal outlets around Australia.
In addition, customers will be able to cash their Travellers Cheques commission-free at the same outlets.

Consignia may rename itself Royal Mail

Consignia has confirmed that it may rename itself Royal Mail PLC. This could mean the end of the Consignia name after just 16 months. Consignia said its name change was justified on the grounds that it suited its goal of becoming an international postal operator.
The decision followed a £500,000 consultation with Dragon Brands.
A Consignia spokesman has told Ananova: “It’s a matter of public knowledge that the chairman Allan Leighton doesn’t like the name Consignia, and it’s the intention to change the name of the organisation.

Consignia boosts travel services

The Post Office, part of the loss-making Consignia group, has joined forces with Bank of Ireland offshoot First Rate Enterprises in an attempt to boost its position in the £26bn UK travel services market.
The joint venture, to be known as First Rate Travel Services, will supply foreign currency to more than 17,500 post office branches, as well as to banks, building societies, hotels and other groups offering a bureau de change service.

Clamour to close post offices

More than 3,000 post office managers want to close their businesses, exceeding Consignia’s prediction of the number of post offices to close under restructuring plans for the ailing network.
The National Federation of SubPostmasters said about 3,250 out of more than 8,500 urban sub postmasters were interested in closing their branches and taking a government-backed compensation offer. The number of potential closures is already above the total of 2,500-3,000 closures anticipated by Consignia.

DHL signs deal with MzDitel

International express delivery company DHL has signed a partnership deal with MZditel in Morocco concerning the transmission of delivery data collected by DHL agents via MZditel’s GSM network. The system works by the agent’s pocket computer automatically sending a request to the agent’s MZditel telephone to be connected to DHL’s database. Once connected, all the pocket computer’s information is transferred to DHL’s world-wide network. Requests to retrieve a parcel can be sent back to the agent within five to ten minutes. Senders will also be able to track their packages on the web site. DHL chose MZditel for the operation, the first of its kind in Africa, because the network covers the whole country.

Swiss 'Express4You' to be expanded

Following the success of the pilot scheme in four train stations in the region of Zurich, the express delivery service from SBB and the express delivery service provider DHL ‘express4you’ is to be expanded. The delivery service will now be offered at the following railway stations; Basel, Bellinzona, Bern, Chur, Freiburg, Genf, Genf airport, Lausanne, Locarno, Lugano, Luzern, St. Gallen, Winterthur and Zug.

Three Irish hauliers have joined forces to provide a guaranteed next-day delivery service between the UK and Southern Ireland. Roadferry, CW Transport and Target Transport, trading under the name of London Irish Express, are able to provide the service through their membership of Palletline.
