Consignia care privatised
Postal group Consignia is to switch occupational health services for its 220,000 workers to a private firm as part of outsourcing plans to save pounds 60m a year.
A five-year pounds 70m contract is expected to be signed within weeks with SchlumbergerSema, part of a global services group with headquarters in New York and contracts covering 200,000 public sector employees in Britain.
DFDS Transport UK & Ireland reverses industry Trend with 2001 profit of GBP 3.4 Million
DFDS Transport in the UK and Ireland has reversed the downward trend in the transport industry for 2001 results by announcing annual profits of GBP 3.4 million, 193 per cent higher than the previous year. The profit was earned from an increase in revenues to GBP 283 million and a growth in individual consignments to nearly 800,000, making DFDS one of the fastest-growing transport organizations in the UK and Ireland.

DSV-owned road transport company DFDS Transport has revealed that it intends to expand its European coverage by establishing a series of new distribution hubs on the continent. A new depot is also set to be opened in Detroit later this month. Presenting the company’s annual results last week, MD Jens Nielsen declined to reveal where the depots would be located, but promised an announcement this week.

Mark Pell, TNT’s Gulf general manager, predicts a 17% increase in revenue on consignments handled in the UAE this year – the regional hub – following 19% growth last year.
