DFDS Transport UK & Ireland reverses industry Trend with 2001 profit of GBP 3.4 Million

DFDS Transport in the UK and Ireland has reversed the downward trend in the transport industry for 2001 results by announcing annual profits of GBP 3.4 million, 193 per cent higher than the previous year.

The profit was earned from an increase in revenues to GBP 283 million and a growth in individual consignments to nearly 800,000, making DFDS one of the fastest-growing transport organizations in the UK and Ireland.

Jens Nielsen, Managing Director of DFDS Transport in the UK and Ireland, said: ” This is an excellent result in what was one of the most challenging years the transport industry has ever faced. We achieved solid improvements in all areas of our business with particularly strong growth in our logistics, ocean freight and road transport activities, and in Ireland.

“During the year, DFDS Transport successfully gained new business from a number of existing customers, including Reebok Fitness Equipment, Velux Windows, Netto, Reebok and DD & V Dresden. We also attracted new logistics contracts in Ireland, notably Penneys.”

The strong UK and Ireland performance follows the announcement of 2001 results by DFDS Transport’s parent, DSV Transport Group. It reported revenues of GBP 1.56 billion and profits of GBP 57 million, following its acquisition of DFDS Transport in 2000.

” Our network continues to grow, most recently with the opening of seven new offices in China and facilities in Korea, Vietnam and Charlotte in the US. Other new developments include expansion of the company’s Project Freight division in the UK and Ireland, plans to become to largest trailer service operator to and from Ireland and Continental Europe during the first half of 2002, and a GBP 6 million investment in fleet development and new shipment tracking technology.
