Geopost & TNT comment on Parcelforces woes

Colin Millbanks, head of French-owned GeoPost UK, dismissed remarks by Consignia chief executive John Roberts that ‘our costs are running ahead of income’. Said Mr Millbanks: ‘It is not about costs. Parcelforce Worldwide does not charge enough in the marketplace. ‘It is offering ridiculous rates that are endangering the position of the other players. Tom Bell, managing director of TNT Express Services in the UK, agreed that Parcelforce’s ratecard was ‘wrongly calibrated’.

TDG contract with Littlewoods extended to include e-delivery

European supply chain solutions provider TDG has extended its long-standing partnership with UK retailer Littlewoods to include a new e-delivery operation. Under the £15m (t24m) deal, TDG will provide a 20,000sq metre storage and pick centre for catalogue and TV shopping channel orders within its multi-contract facility at Wrexham.

'Sell Parcelforce' call

Calls for Consignia to sell Parcelforce, its struggling package delivery arm, are increasing as losses continue to mount. “The business would be better off outside Consignia, because mail, parcels and retailing are separate businesses, ” said Paul Jackson, MD of parcels industry consultant Triangle. “They could consider a management buyout scheme.” Jackson said: “Problems are mounting in the rest of Consignia’s business, with the opening up of the letters market to competition and industrial relations problems. Consignia’s management won’t have time to sort Parcelforce’s problems out. The government does not need to be in the parcels business – or retailing for that matter. If Parcelforce wasn’t owned by Consignia, it would be a market leader today.”

Royal PTT Post launches Privver

The trial with Privver, the digital mailbox of Royal PTT Post, has proved successful. It showed a clear demand existed for the digital transmission of important pieces of mail, with PTT Post in a coordinating role. Starting today, Royal PTT Post will gradually increase the group of consumers able to receive mail via Privver.
