Nightspeed get Golden Casket Group contract

Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express won the £250,000 contract to deliver leading brands of sweets for the Golden Casket Group. Some 350 parcels per day of ‘Millions’ tiny chewy sweets and ‘Trillions’ chocolates in crispy crunchy shells will be delivered to agents, franchisees, retail wholesalers and cash and carry outlets throughout the UK.

Courier services drive Belgian economy

The courier and express industry invested
€2.13 billion in Belgium over the past two years creating some 15,000 jobs, according to a study commissioned by the Belgian Courier Association (BCA) and carried out by professional services firm KPMG.

41% of the sector’s revenues go back to the Belgian state in the form of taxes, social security and other payments.

France – Asia may see sector through a rough patch

As if the effects of Sars and the global economic downturn were not enough, the French air freight industry started the year with another blow: an air traffic controllers’ strike. The setbacks induced a 6.3% drop in capacity at Air France and a subsequent 5.7% decrease in cargo volumes in the first quarter of this year. The malaise probably had something to do with the decision from TAT, the French post office’s B2B express parcels arm, to axe 60% of its express operations from Paris.

Poor results – cargo revenue down 8.8% for the first quarter and a reduction of 9.2% in total airline revenue – could also be the driving force behind Air France’s talks with KLM.

Although Air France will not elaborate, it has admitted the two airlines are discussing taking a minority stake in each other.

Japan Post small-parcel delivery service to go nationwide

Japan Post has said it will begin a new small-parcel delivery service for a uniform fee of 500 yen in all parts of Japan on Oct. 14.

The new service, which is currently available on a trial basis in Tokyo and Osaka, is part of Japan Post’s strategy to reinforce its mail business.

Fujitsu Chooses UPS To Streamline Post-Sales Supply Chain

UPS has announced Fujitsu Technology Solutions, Inc. has expanded its relationship with UPS Supply Chain Solutions. The UPS business unit now will serve as Fujitsu’s “one source” provider of post-sales services in North America, supplanting multiple vendors.

UPS Supply Chain Solutions will provide central parts distribution, returns management and parts planning services for Fujitsu® PRIMEPOWER servers and other products.

Informatics Ministry delivers blow to Ceska Posta

The Ministry of Informatics’ rejection of a complaint by Ceska Posta against the press distribution company MediaServis is expected to erode the state-owned mail deliverer’s monopoly. Ceska Posta filed a complaint with the ministry in June after MediaServis ran a direct mail campaign for a large bank in Prague. The company delivered thousands of letters to individual addresses of potential customers containing information about the new bank service. Ceska Posta said the campaign infringed its protected monopoly area which it is granted in return for it providing a nationwide public mail delivery service.
