Amtrak Express Parcels has secured a contract to become the sole overnight carrier for electrical goods retailer EmpireDirect.co.uk delivering up to 25,000 parcesl a month on next-day home delivery.

Amtrak launches overnight delivery service for perishable goods
Amtrak has launched an overnight delivery service for perishable and delicate items. This builds on the firm‘s WineTrak wine delivery service, now extended to foods, flowers and other perishables increasingly sold by retailers, manufacturers and specialist shops via websites and catalogues. Items are routed to a dedicated fragile goods distribution centre for hand sorting, supported by wireless scanning technology.

Littlefoot, the automated data collection specialist, has helped to develop a sophisticated proof of delivery system for Amtrak Express Parcels. The new solution is based on two-dimensional barcodes, and uses Dolphin 7300 mobile computers, supplied by HHP and equipped with specialist software developed by Littlefoot.
Amtrak`s new system forms part of a major investment programme in IT, designed to consolidate and extend the company`s success within the UK.
