Post boxes for villas underway

Q-POST has initiated the steps for its much-awaited scheme of post boxes in villa compounds and flat complexes, inquiries found.

An official of the post boxes department said yesterday that in response to the advertisement carried by Q-Post some time ago, owners of some villa compounds had responded to express their willingness to avail of the scheme.

Mohamed Hamad Rashdan, head of subscribers’ boxes of Q-Post, said that the department was still receiving a number of requests from potential customers.

Under the scheme, in the first year a customer has to pay QR700 for installation of a post box at his residence. The amount included the installation charges of QR200 of the box.

However, from the second year, the customer needs to pay QR500, said Rashdan.

As part of the arrangement, customers would also be provided a common post box in a villa compound or a flat complex for the outward delivery of postal articles.

The Q-Post official said that those staying in apartments could also have boxes installed outside their flat. For them also the tariffs would be the same.

Asked if the facility would be extended to other areas, the official said the new scheme would be introduced all over Qatar.

The official said the corporation had the manpower and vehicles to make delivery of postal articles anywhere in the country.

The official said the new arrangement will soon come into being in some compounds in Doha.

DHL and Lemuir consolidate logistics business in India

DHL and Lemuir Group, pioneers in the Indian logistics industry announced that Deutsche Post World Net and Lemuir have planned to consolidate their joint venture which would be named – DHL Lemuir Logistics Private Limited – in India. Deutsche Post World Net will hold 76 percent stake in the joint venture with 24 percent being held by Lemuir. The consolidated joint venture will combine the businesses of DHL Danzas Lemuir Pvt. Ltd. and Exel India Private Limited, which recently acquired the Contract Logistics and Customs House Brokerage operations for general cargo from Lee & Muirhead Pvt. Ltd. This consolidation will position DHL as the leader in International Freight Forwarding, Supply Chain Management and Customs Brokerage in India.

The consolidation will combine the expertise of three well established players in the logistics space in India. The consolidated logistics business will trade under the DHL brand as DHL Global Forwarding for the freight forwarding business and DHL Exel Supply Chain for contract logistics. It will lead to significant benefits for customers, including greater geographic spread, product and service leadership and enhanced offerings to meet all their logistics and supply chain requirements.

DHL in India also comprises of DHL Express – India’s leading express company – and Blue Dart, a leader in domestic express, which will continue to operate as independent business units.

DHL inaugurates new Country Office and Service Center in Colombo

DHL inaugurated its new state-of-the-art Country Office and Service Center at 148, Vauxhall Street in Colombo. The event was officiated by Scott Price, CEO, DHL Express – Asia Pacific, and Romesh David, President – Transportation and IT Groups, John Keells Holdings.

The purpose-built Euro 2 million (LKR 260 million), 40,000-square-feet facility houses 130 staff for both the administration and operations arms of DHL Express in Sri Lanka, as well as a 24/7 call centre.

During the last few years, DHL Express has made significant investments of close to EUR 2.5 million towards the development und upgrading of its network infrastructure in Sri Lanka, including DHL’s Gateway/Customs Bonded Warehouse in Ja-Ela with its innovative Quality Control Center (QCC). The first of its kind in Sri Lanka, the QCC serves as the nerve centre for all DHL Express Sri Lanka’s shipment movement control, providing real-time visibility and proactive operational crisis management 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

With the QCC, DHL has also introduced the Quality Shipment Monitoring System (QSMS), which is the latest addition to DHL’s monitoring tools. QSMS allows shipment monitoring to be done real time for the whole process, from pickup until uplift for outbound shipments and after arrival and until final delivery for inbound shipments. This has allowed DHL a more proactive approach in managing possible shipment delays, e.g. caused by flight delays or bad weather, including activating contingency plans and notifying customers.

Pakistan Post to collect utility bills from homes

Pakistan Post would soon launch its new service of utility bills’ collection from homes, shops and offices to maximum facilitate its customers, said Director General Pakistan Post Arshad Khan here on Sunday. “You just make a telephone call and postman of the area will collect utility bill from your home,” the DG told a private television channel (ARY One World).

He said there are 300-350 night post offices across the country, which work 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Eight to ten night post offices are operating in Islamabad, while 70 to 80 night offices are working in Karachi city.

Pakistan Post’s network consists of 12,000 offices, spreading all over the country, Arshad Khan added.

He said the Pakistan Post is undergoing a transformational phase, which would ultimately bring services of the institution at par with the international standard. He said efforts are being made to make the organisation more efficient, customer-friendly, putting it on modern lines.

The DG said restructuring and re-organisation work of the Post is underway, besides making significant progress in human resource development it has decided to impart modern training to 15,000 staffers belonging to customer services, while 5,000 staffers have been trained up to now.

“Under the reformation plan, all counters of the Pakistan Post to be automated,” Arshad Khan said adding that the institution is also considering to provide micro-finance facility to its customers.
