DHL signs MoU with Shanghai Airport Authority, plans north Asia hub

DHL said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai Airport Authority to explore building a north Asia hub in the city.

The two parties have yet to reach a final agreement, and discussions are likely to continue for the next few months, a DHL spokesperson said.

‘DHL’s signing of the MoU with the Shanghai Airport Authority is an indication of DHL’s interest in building a hub in Shanghai. We have not reached a final agreement,’ the spokesperson said.

DHL aims to have a north Asia hub operating by 2009.

GeoPost extends DPD network to Kazakhstan

The DPD network has been extended to Kazakhstan with the creation of the new joint venture, GeoPost Caspian. The expansion move is designed to take account of rising parcel volumes to the Eurasian region.

GeoPost Caspian was founded as a joint venture between local parcel operator Globalink in Kazakhstan and the Turkish DPD franchisee GeoPost Yurtici Kargo Servisi. The new company is the DPD franchisee for Kazakhstan.

Top Logistics Firms honored at the 2006 Frost & Sullivan ASEAN 4 Logistics Awards

Singapore, July 20, 2006 – Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting firm today honored top logistics firms in five major sectors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand at its ASEAN 4 Logistics Awards based on a Voice of the Customer research. Sectors included are automotive, pharmaceutical, retail, fast moving consumer goods and IT/electronics.

“Logistics service providers which secured the highest ratings for their performance and capability from customers in a particular industry sector were named winners,” says Kavan Mukhtyar, Director of Transportation, Asia Pacific at Frost & Sullivan.

“In determining the winner, it is not the size of the company that matters, but rather the quality of service in meeting its customers’ expectation that is important,” he says.
