Four named Malaysia's best logistics service providers

Four foreign-owned companies with operations in Malaysia have been named Malaysia’s best logistics service providers in the areas of automotive, pharmaceutical, retail, fast-moving consumer goods and information technology (IT)/electronics by consulting firm Frost &Sullivan. Frost &Sullivan named Germany-based Schenker as Malaysia’s Best Automotive Logistics Service Provider in its annual 2006 Asean 4 Logistics Awards. Swiss logistics group Kuehne &Nagel AG was voted Best Pharmaceutical Logistics Service Provider, while Germany’s DHL took both the Best Retail Logistics Service Provider and the Best Fast Moving Consumer Goods Logistics Service Provider awards. The Best IT/Electronics Logistics Service Provider award was won by Japan’s Nippon Express Co Ltd. Frost &Sullivan recently honored top logistics firms in five major sectors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand at its Asean 4 Logistics Awards based on a Voice of the Customer research.

Mukhtyar estimates that the outsourced logistics market in Asean is expected to grow 9.9 per cent to 14.8 billion USD (RM54.5 billion) this year from 13.5 billion USD (RM49.7 billion) in 2005.

In Malaysia, the outsourced logistics market is expected to grow 8.3 per cent to reach a revenue figure of 3.25 billion USD (RM12 billion) this year, from 3 billion USD (RM11 billion) last year.

Japan Post, JR East eye cash card with Suica functions

Japan Post is talking with East Japan Railway Co. about a plan to issue a cash card with the electronic money and prepaid train ticket functions of JR East’s Suica smart card, it was learned Thursday.

Japan Post, which operates the Yucho savings service, and the major railroad are considering launching the new card as early as next spring, sources said.

FedEx plunges in Qingdao Logistics War

FedEx, the express transportation company, announced days ago that it had commissioned a branch in Qingdao, a Chinese coastal city.

Located in the Sifang District of Qingdao, the branch covers an area of 3,300 square meters. Its ground operating station is able to handle 1,600 articles per hour at most. The station is also equipped with advanced monitoring system that can work for 24 hours a day, ensuring a real-time monitoring over the packages.

The US logistics company aims to enhance its outlet distribution and operating capacity in northern China so as to meet the increasing demands for international express services here.

Pakistan Post takes over express post work from Shaheen Express

Pakistan Post after assessing the performance of M/S Shaheen Express (Pvt) Ltd. Wednesday decided to take over the Express Post work from the contractor. A press release of Pakistan Post issued here said this decision was taken in view of a large number of complaints from postal clientele and inattention of the contractor to redress their complaints regarding late and non-delivery of Express Post mail and payment of Urgent Money Orders/ Fax Money Orders.
