TNT is investing more in its operations in Thailand, a report in Krungthep Turkaij said. The managing director of TNT Thailand said the company would invest about 350 million baht this year to improve its logistics network. Last year TNT invested 97 million baht on a major project to develop its transport network in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

The district court ruled that the public postal concern is not charging prices below cost because the growth of its delivery service has not pushed it deeper into the red.

It will handle no postcards or personal letters. The maximum weight of deliverable mail will be 20 kilograms. Nippon Express aims to receive 1 million orders for the new service in fiscal 2006. A similar registered mail service Japan Post offers charges a flat fee of 1,270 yen, regardless of the destination, for mail weighing up to 2 kg. Nippon Express will change its prices depending on the distance to the destination.

Nippon Express and Mitsui OSK will take stakes of about 10 pct and 5 pct respectively in the joint venture. The new company will be capitalized at 30 mln yen and will be set up in February initially as a wholly owned subsidiary of ANA, the report said. The airline will then sell a portion of its stake to Japan Post, Nippon Express and Mitsui OSK in April, when Japan Post is allowed to enter the international shipping business. As a result, ANA’s stake will decline to 51.7 pct and Japan Post’s will reach 33.3 pct.
