Garant Post- number one in Russia

Demand for GEP services is growing strongly in Russia, in particular in the Moscow and St Petersburg metropolitan areas. Not only the well-known international CEP service providers are benefiting from these developments, but national companies too. Russia is currently one of the most interesting growth markets in Europe for express service providers too. Number one in the domestic market is Garant Post, a joint venture founded around 15 years ago by the Russian national airline Aeroflot, the French national airline Air France, the French express service provider Chronopost (a subsidiary of the French post office), Sodexi (the Air France CEP subsidiary) and a Russian bank. The Russian post office withdrew from the enterprise last year.

French PriceMinister and Chronopost enter Partnership

French e-commerce website PriceMinister, specialised in trading new, half-priced and second-hand items, has signed a co-operation contract with local logistics and mail delivery solutions provider Chronopost International to ensure a rapid delivery of its products, it was reported on February 25, 2005.

Following the contract, all companies and entrepreneurs that sell their products through PriceMinister, can create and upload their digital order forms at PriceMinister.com.

‘Mature’ French market belies trade growth

France has emerged from its economic lull, according to the government, which has upped the 2004 GDP growth forecast to 2.3%. But business leaders are finding it hard to square the country’s new position in the front rank of EU economies with their still struggling bottom lines. “The finance minister talks about 2% growth, ” says Geraud de Chantérac, VP of GeoPost’s French arm, Chronopost France. “We’ve talked to all our competitors and we don’t know where that figure comes from.” Express operators facing little vitality in the domestic market are targeting international services for growth. “The domestic market is very mature, ” says Eric Jacquemet, MD of TNT France. “But the international market is growing by more than 5% a year and we are growing at an even faster rate.” TNT is the third largest operator in France’s international express market, just below Chronopost’s 18.5%. DHL is the clear market leader, with 36% of the market.

Chronopost 2003 turnover up 7%

Chronopost International, the express distribution arm of the French post office, expects its 2003 turnover to show an increase of just over 7% on the previous levels, French business newspaper Les Echos reported. Chronopost CEO, Gilles Moutel said maket conditions in 2003 had been the porest for 5 years and that there are few signs of recovery in the sector.
