EU clears Post Danmark, CVC to buy stake in Belgian postal service

Denmark’s national postal service, Post Danmark A/S, won EU regulatory approval Tuesday for its plans to buy a 49 percent stake in Belgium’s La Poste-De Post.
Post Danmark and its minority shareholder CVC Capital Partners are paying the Belgian state EUR300 million (USD361 million) and will help modernize the service. Belgium will keep the remaining 51 percent of the shares in the country’s postal service and the company will remain headquartered in Brussels.

Post Danmark, CVC buy stake in Belgian postal service for EUR300 million

Denmark’s national postal service, Post Danmark A/S, said Wednesday it and its minority shareholder CVC Capital Partners have invested EUR300 million (USD361 million) to buy a 49 percent stake in Belgium’s La Poste-De Post.

The Belgian state would retain the remaining 51 percent of the shares in La Poste-De Poste, the country’s postal service.

“The strategic partnership was part of the modernization of the Belgian postal service,” Post Danmark and CVC said in a joint statement.

Belgium also had been looking for a partner to help modernize its service. The government had said it intended to remain the majority shareholder in La Poste with the decision-making center remaining in Belgium.

La Poste-De Post is Belgium’s main postal service with some 35,000 employees.

Post Danmark, CVC Capital Partners close to buying stake in Belgium’s De Post

Post Danmark AS and the UK’s CVC Capital Partners are close to buying a 49 pct stake in the Belgium postal services, De Post – La Poste, daily Jyllands-Posten reported, citing Post Danmark chairman, Fritz Schur. The shareholding in De Post – La Poste has been put up for sale by the Belgium government. Post Danmark and CVC Capital Partners have been negotiating with the Belgians over the weekend and Schur told the daily that he expects to call a board meeting as soon as next week in order to have the deal cleared.

Post Danmark preferred bidder for De Post-La Poste Belgium

The Danish postal service, Post Danmark, Friday said it and CVC Capital Partners Ltd. are the preferred bidder for a 50%-minus one share stake in De Post-La Poste, the Belgian postal service. Post Danmark said it and CVC, which holds a 22% in Post Danmark, are now in exclusive talks with the Belgian state and De Post-La Poste. The companies provided no financial details, and will make public the results of their negotiations in September, Post Danmark said.
