Germany’s Fiege eyes acquisitions in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, France

German logistics company Fiege is eyeing acquisitions in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and France, Handelsblatt newspaper said, citing Heinz Fiege, managing director of the company. ‘We are already targeting several companies and want to invest a total of about 300 mln eur,’ Fiege said. The company also hopes to win new customers following Deutsche Post AG’s planned takeover of Exel PLC.

Deutsche Post suspected by regulator of abusing dominant market position

Deutsche Post AG is suspected by Germany’s Federal Networks Agency regulator of abusing its dominant market position and may face a formal investigation on the matter, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing an internal agency memo it obtained. The newspaper also wrote that numerous private mail delivery companies complained that Deutsche Post was hindering their ability to enter the market for collecting and sorting letters. A Deutsche Post spokesman denied it was hindering competition when contacted by the newspaper.

Deutsche Post to cut postage rate 0.2 pct from January

Deutsche Post AG is planning to lower its postage rate for letters by 0.2 pct from January next year, chief executive Klaus Zumwinkel told Der Spiegel magazine. He also reiterated Deutsche Post’s intention to defend its position in the sector ‘with all means’ following the liberalisation of the German postal market in early 2008.
