Inserts volume increases

The latest figures from the DMA Inserts Council show that although 2001 saw a slight decrease during July and August compared to 2000, there has been a considerable improvement in September. There has also been a slight increase in inserts volume in the third quarer.

Companies setting new budgets in the third quarter of 2001 revealed that spend on direct marketing was set to grow at a faster rate than all other market ing activities, according to the Bellwether Report. published late last year. Nearly three times as many companies (46%) report ed a rise in next years budget spend on direct marketing as those that reported a decline (16%).

A recent Client Satisfaction Survey initiated by The Quality Standard for Mail Production (QMP) inchcated that 90% of the 6003 clients interviewed were likely to use direct mail in the future. Most clients were satisfied with their mailing house, with 77% opting to stick with their current supplier.

Junk mailers harming industry

Unscrupulous junk mailers responsible for sending out mail to incorrectly addressed and named persons could hinder the future development of the direct marketing industry. According to Andrew Smith, managing director of database bureau, marketphone.com, many large mailing companies are still not adhering to the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
