TNT gets European logistics contract from Johnson & Johnson

TNT Logistics has received a five-year contract from US personal care products maker Johnson & Johnson for the management of a new European distribution centre, TNT said on March 30, 2006. Financial details were not disclosed.
Johnson & Johnson will invest 33 mln euro (USD39.8 mln) in the distribution centre, which will cover an area of 19,000 sq m. The distribution centre will be located near Charleroi, Belgium, and will become operational in the third quarter of 2006. The new centre is expected to create between 120 and 160 jobs until 2008.

La Poste launches new directing marketing services for SMEs

The French postal group has unveiled new direct marketing mail services for small and medium-sized firms, and launched a new postal services subsidiary, Mediapost Data, to market these services.

La Poste said it aimed to offer a full range of added-value services for direct marketing, which was a vital part of the mail sector. By targeting the SME market, the postal group aimed to grow its business in this sector, comprising 2.5 million enterprises. While French firms invest about 32% of their communications spending on mail, about 93% of French consumers read addressed promotional material, according to market surveys.

Business Post wins FedEx contract renewal as restructuring makes progress

British express parcels carrier Business Post has won a major boost with the extension of a vital FedEx contract as it makes progress on its ongoing restructuring. Shares in the company rose strongly on the news, closing up 9.9% at 383 pence on March 31. Business Post announced that FedEx Express had renewed its contract as Global Service Participant in the United Kingdom. Business Post’s existing five-year contract will be replaced with a new five-year contract, with effect from 3 September 2006, on similar commercial terms. Chief executive Guy Buswell commented: “We are delighted that we will continue to act as a key partner for FedEx Express in the UK. FedEx Express has confirmed that our high service levels and new advanced IT solution were central factors in the decision and this renewal is therefore a significant achievement on the part of our new operational management team. Sustaining high levels of service for all customers represents the foundation stone for our overall business performance.”

Austrian Post builds up new parcels management team

Austrian Post has made two senior appointments at its parcels and logistics division as it gears up to enter the B2B parcels market later this year. The Austrian postal operator has named Max Moser as joint head of the parcels and logistics unit together with Sonja Stockmayer.
