A new player has entered the UK domestic mail market. Mailplus will compete with companies such as TNT Mail and UK Mail for bulk mail services. Part of the Geopost group, Mailplus will use its sister company Parceline’s vehicles and West Midlands hub. Royal Mail will carry out final delivery. Mailplus claims the service will be 10% cheaper than Royal Mail rates, achievable, according to general manager John Wilkins, by using automated sorting and a hub-and-spoke network. The new company also claims to offer flexible collection times.

Geopost, a subsidiary of French postal organisation La Poste, declined to say when and why he had left the company. Journalists were referred to the announcement made by DHL last Monday concerning Mr Begle’s appointment as chief operating officer for DHL Express Germany and DHL Express Central Europe. The communications manager for GeoPost, Marion Egal, would say only that it was Mr Begle who had chosen to leave the company and not the company which had decided to dispense with his services. She added that the company’s management team would be reorganised as a result of the departure and an announcement regarding this would be made ‘a bit later’. ‘Our feeling here is that GeoPost management are handling the situation as it is,’ she said, ‘International development is going on.’

In his new position, Claude Béglé will report to Peter E. Kruse, Management Board member of Deutsche Post World Net and CEO of DHL Express Europe.

The two companies had already signed an agreement earlier this year, when DPD installed an automated delivery scan system based around the Dolphins.
