Ghana Post must be born anew – Mpiani

The Chief of Staff and Minister for Presidential Affairs, Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani has tasked Ghana Post to reposition it and diversify its operations to respond to rapid technological changes.

He said Ghana Post could revisit the savings accounts system through the purchase of stamps, saying that would encourage the youth to save.

Mr Mpiani, who made the remarks when he launched a collection of Ghana @50 commemorative stamps produced by the Ghana Post in Accra also, tasked Ghanaian investors to invest in their country.

The occasion coincided with this year’s World Post Day which is under the theme; “Get connected.”

He reminded Ghana Post of the need for all Ghanaians to have access to Post offices irrespective of where they lived.

On the stamps, the Chief of Staff noted that they portrayed strides Ghana had achieved over the past 50 years in Education, Health, Sports, Banking and Insurance among others.

Dr Benjamin Aggrey Ntim, Minister of Communications said government recognizes the role of the postal services hence has constructed 59 more post offices under the HIPIC initiative in order to bridge the communication gab.

Mr Kofi Duah-Adonteng, Managing Director of Ghana Post said it was determined to get all its systems automated, diversify their services and products in the face of improving technology.

He said the theme for this year reminded them to reposition in the wake of technology and related changes so that they remained relevant to the society.

Mr Duah-Adonteng said five International Money Transfer firms have expressed their readiness to work with the Ghana Post and extend many of their services in the rural areas.

Ghana Post: Sekondi to get post office with ICT facilities

The management of Ghana Post has decided to include Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities to post offices in the country.

Mr Kofi Dua-Adonteng, Managing Director of Ghana Post who announced this said a post office equipped with ICT facilities was ideal with the current development in information technology.

He was speaking at a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of a GH¢ 140,000 (1.4 billion cedis) post office equipped with Internet facilities and a conference hall at Sekondi.

Papa Owusu Ankomah, Member of Parliament for Sekondi, and a Presidential aspirant of New Patriotic Party (NPP) is financing the project.

Mr Dua-Adonteng said a post office with ICT facilities would enable many people nationwide to have access to Internet facilities.

He noted that Ghana Post must adopt modern technologies to effectively compete with the increasing technologies.

Mr Kwesi Blay, Deputy Western Regional Minister called on management of Ghana Post to introduce courier services to re-capture the business sector of communication.

He said the sale of stamps alone was not financially prudent.

Mr Blay regretted that most people instead of using the Internet to access information misuse it and sometimes defraud unsuspecting individuals.

He called on citizens in Sekondi to utilise opportunities offered by the facility and maintain it for future generations. 1 GBP= 18,784 Ghanian Cedi

Ghana Post Launches Same Day Delivery

Ghana Postal Company Ltd yesterday launched its same day delivery services for Accra, Tema and six regional capitals as a means of further improving its services to the public.

Under the service, the company’s Expedited Mail Service (EMS) will carry out daily deliveries of items within Accra , Tema, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi and Tamale on the day of receiving the courier items by a certain time of the day.

For example, any item received between 7a.m. and 2p.m. for Accra and Tema and their environs will be delivered on the same day.

Similarly, EMS would deliver items meant for Cape Coast, Takoradi, Kumasi, Ho, Koforidua and Tamale from Accra on the same day if they are handed in between 7a.m. and 10p.m. on that day.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr Kofi Dua Adonteng, said Ghana Post also had in place a track and trace system which enabled customers’ items to be traced in case they were misplaced, since the system reinforced the security and reliability of items through EMS.

He told customers of Ghana Post that the company was committed to serving them better.

Ghana Post to go high tech

The management of Ghana Post is to begin a counter computerization programme to make the company more competitive.

This is part of a programme by the management to reposition the company to respond to the demands for efficient postal services and to provide customers with what they want.

The plan was contained in a statement issued in Accra by the company to mark the Pan African Post Day which fell on January 18.

The Day was set aside by the Pan African Postal Union to create awareness in the minds of the public on the important role the Post plays in the development of countries.

This year’s theme was: “The Post at the heart of competition”.

The statement said when the counter computerization had been done; Ghana Post would integrate internet cafes into its core business nationwide.

The statement said in Africa and more especially Ghana, where liberalization had been total, public postal operations ought to show tenacity and initiative to be able to face the competitive environment to remain in business.

This meant that public postal operations had to adopt strategic re-orientation of activities for survival and prosperity for their companies.

The postal market in Ghana had seen a progressive competition and the statement acknowledged there was competition from all angles, the statement said.

The Ghana Post Company Limited is positioning itself to provide a new image and direction of postal services on the African continent in the face of serious technological developments and competition.

As the new Chair of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU), elected at the 25th Ordinary Session of the Administrative Council of the Union recently held in Accra, Ghana Post is now diversifying its services, and would provide the leadership to reform the African postal service to ensure its survival.
