Can Ghana Post deliver the mail directly?

The government has forecast that Ghana Post, the country’s monopolistic mail distributor should be able to deliver mails directly to houses by the end of the year. “Direct delivery is however impossible without proper street naming and house numbering across the country”, says Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Kwaku Agyeman Manu. Manu who disclosed this at a forum on the 2005 budget organized by the Integrated Social Development Center (ISODEC) last Thursday said in a bid to make the identification of streets and houses easy, the government will embark on street naming and house numbering by June this year. He said direct mail delivery could become a major source of employment for the youth and even pensioners, since the sorting, distribution and direct delivery of letters would require more hands.

Ghana Post Re-Launches “Swift Post”

The Ghana Post has re-launched a product under the name Swift Post in Accra to improve upon the company’s delivery service in the country. Speaking at the re-launch, the Board Chairman of the Ghana Post, Prof. Robert Addo Fenning, said customer satisfaction had become a key issue in the service industry in Ghana hence the need for a re-launch the product. He said the product was re-launched to serve customers better by responding to their needs and preferences as well as making the company’s products attractive and readily accessible. He said the name Swift Post had been adopted in place of Domestic Parcel as an assurance of speedy transmission and delivery. However, the product had not received the expected patronage as a result of public dissatisfaction with the tardy arrival of parcels at their intended destinations.

Mr. Nicholas Dery, Deputy Manager Operations and Development of the Ghana Post (GP) has said the Service is undertaking radical re-structuring and re-capitalisation, with a view to modernising service delivery.
He said appropriate technology had been procured to automate and network all counters in the country to facilitate easy transactions and efficient services.
