Liberian postal services resumed

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has announced the resumption of mail delivery into the country. The resumption follows negotiation with international airlines, mainly the Ghana Airways.
Making the disclosure at a press briefing recently, Mr. Paul P. Jarvan, Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, announced the arrival of a new batch of mails from Ghana, but did not clarify whether mails are the leaving the country.
Mr. Jarvan noted that the Ministry is working out the necessary modalities to dispatch a technical delegation to Ghana to further concretize arrangements with postal authorities in that country to facilitate the deliveries of mails which had been stranded in that country.

Door to door mail delivery to be expanded

The door-to-door delivery of mails project is to be expanded over a five year period to cover other regional and district capitals that have proper layout with well demarcated numbered buildings. The delivery of mails was introduced in 1999 as a three-year pilot project by Ghana Post Company Limited to meet the growing demand from customers to receive their mails in their homes.

Creditors cut off Liberia's mail

Liberia, which is already suffering under United Nations sanctions over alleged links with rebels in Sierra Leone, is now faced with another sanction – on mail leaving and coming into the country. International postal bodies and airlines have imposed the embargo because of Liberia’s inability to pay its huge debts to those companies.

FedEx Expands in West Africa

Courier industry giant, Fedex Red Star Express, says it is embarking on a fresh expansion scheme with a view to extending its business frontiers across West African sub-region. The company, as part of the on-going project has opened a new operational base in Cotonou, Benin Republic, as well as in Accra, Ghana to serve as experimental units of the scheme.
