India: Reciprocal services between post & telecom cease

Come
October 1, and the arrangement for free services on reciprocal basis
between the Department of Posts and the Department of Telecom, nay
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), shall cease to exist. From then on, BSNL will have to pay the Department of Posts for all
services – such as collection of telephone bills, service money
orders, occupying space, etc – availed through the latter’s network
and infrastructure.

India Post re-invents itself

IT IS GOOD to find the Department of Posts (DoP) trying to live down
its traditional image of a low-profile, sluggish organisation. The
series of non-traditional business initiatives the DoP has taken in
recent years indeed mark its efforts to reinvent itself. It has
already made a reasonable success of the value-added service
ventures, such as Speed Post, Express Parcel Post, Business Post,
Media/Publicity Post, Corporate Money Order and Surface Air Lifted
Mailing. In some of these segments, it was pitted against the
expanding private sector courier companies. Thereafter, it embarked
upon the totally new business of selling customised greeting cards
with pre-paid printed postage stamps that are a replica of the
design on the card. In yet another breakthrough, it struck a deal
for international money transfer services with Western Union
Financial Services International of the US.

India Post launches pre-pay email service

India Post has launched its pre-paying email and hybrid mail services in five pilot locations. After registering to use the service all customers need to do is use their pre-paid card and pin-code to send emails and hybrid mail requests from any machine.

Expanding reach of La Poste

Spain and India are the latest countries to extend ties with La Poste after Correos y Telegrafos agreed to increase its cooperation with the French, and Paris became the hub of an Indo-European parcel venture. Alberto Nunez Feijoo, general manager of Correos y Telegrafos, and Martin Vial, chairman of the La Poste group, have both pledged to “enhance their cooperation in order to consolidate their joint position in the Spanish express parcels market”, said La Poste in a statement.
