DHL new express service begins in the Caribbean and Bermuda

DHL launched its new express delivery, time definite service in five countries in the region: DHL Express 10:30 am for deliveries to the United States.

Caribbean customers can now enjoy the assurance and security of knowing delivery times while experiencing the added comforts of a money back guarantee, said DHL, one of the world’s leading express services and logistics companies.

The new morning express delivery service addresses the needs of customers that require time definite deliveries, giving them the option of when and at what time they wish their time-sensitive materials to arrive at their destination, DHL added.

This new offering is available to customers and companies that ship to key business centres in the United States from Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica.

Caymanians train Jamaica Post staff

Cayman Islands Postal Service Deputy Postmaster General Anthony Williams and Joshua Rivers work with the Jamaica Post staff.

Two members of the Cayman Islands Postal Service “Gold Level” rated Express Mail Service (EMS) team recently facilitated a three-day training seminar for 30 staff members of the Jamaica postal service.

Deputy Postmaster General Operations Anthony Williams and EMS Services Administrator Joshua Rivers facilitated training in the areas of receiving and inward dispatching of international parcels, EMS mail and registered mail, as well as that of outward dispatching of international mail.

The training mission also included introduction to the software – “Rugby System” and “IPS Light” that assists with tracking, tracing and research investigations of EMS items and parcels.

Commenting on the opportunity to share expertise with Jamaica Post, Postmaster General Sheena Glasgow said:

“We were pleased to provide assistance. Helping Jamaica Post improve its service will also benefit customers in the Cayman Islands who send mail to Jamaica. The Cayman Islands Postal Service has expertise in this area, and Mr Williams is well respected in the region for his knowledge of postal operations.”

Bar codes boost Jamaica's mail tracking

The term ‘high-tech’ is usually associated with some element of computer use, so it’s not surprising that the new bar-coded labels being introduced by the Jamaican postal administration for tracking registered mail utilise a digital format for data to be captured by a computerised scanner.

“Incorporating technology, that’s the only way forward,” says Postmaster General/CEO, Michael Gentles. He outlined that this development was born out of ongoing negotiations between the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and all member countries for the creation of a single data-recording format to be used internationally for tracking specific mail items.

Gentles said, “We will be implementing this bar-coded label format for registered letters as an element in advancing the pace of postal service modernisation. This computerised method presents significant advantages for reducing processing time and errors from manual data input, and will boost efficiency in this aspect of our service.”

The bar code begins with the letters ‘RR’ followed by nine digits and end with the letters ‘JM’. Tracking for parcels being sent overseas has been benefiting from this bar-coded label arrangement since 2002. At this time, in concert with many other postal administrations globally, Jamaica has now added the bar-code tracking system to registered mail. This major modernisation project for registered items will, however, initially begin with the bar-coded labels being utilised only for registered mail being sent overseas.

Jamaica Post advances 'business mail' concept

Jamaica Post’s new approach to its business mail service – the Corporate Mailroom – is specifically targeted to volume-oriented business mail. In particular, the MegaMail service is proving to be quite useful to the target customer-business operators based on the sustained increase in business mail customers.

MegaMail provides customers with a hassle-free facility for distributing large amounts of mail that have the same size and weight in one mailing without having to purchase stamps for each item.

Additionally, the organisation is freed from having to use cash, as the process is facilitated by credit cards or a manager’s cheque payable to the postmaster general since the total postage cost can be obtained by phone (once the common weight of items is established).

To access the MegaMail service, customers will need to send at least 1,500 pieces at one time. Therefore, if you have large numbers of customer care letters, invitations, receipts or such mail items to distribute, use MegaMail.

Jamaican Postal service now offers international Express Mail Service

Jamaica Post (the Post & Telecommunications Department and the PostalCorporation of Jamaica) has introduced Express Mail Service (EMS), a totally new international courier service in collaboration with postal administrations in other countries. This service is the answer to the need for individuals and organisations to send packages overseas via a cost-effective, safe, reliable delivery service.

Countries Available

The initial service will be confined to the Caribbean (Antigua, Barbados, Grand Cayman, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia), Canada, thes United States (Miami, New York) and the United Kingdom. Successful negotiations with these postal administrations have resulted in specific arrangements for all Express Mail Service items to be expeditiously processed, as the Jamaican postal administration has established bilateral contracts that ensure the speedy processing of all items that enter the designated countries.
