Hungary on list of banned countries for online orders

Several international online retailers have included Hungary on their list of banned postal destinations after repeated complaints about lost shipments, national daily Magyar Hirlap reported on Tuesday. Online shops cd-wow.com and threadless.com do not deliver to Hungary at all, while amazon.com has placed certain Hungarian addresses on a list of banned destinations, the paper said.
According to Magyar Hirlap, there appears to be a Bermuda triangle for mail orders in Hungary, which affects both domestic and international senders and explains why most Hungarian online shops use private delivery services instead of Magyar Posta, the Hungarian post office.

Hungarian Magyar Posta expects to end year with operating profits of HUF 7bn

State-owned Hungarian postal company Magyar Posta expects to end 2005 with operating profit of HUF 7bn on revenue of HUF 157bn, business daily Napi Gazdasag reported on Monday. Deliveries of letters generated 60pc of revenue, and package delivery accounted for 5pc. The rest of revenue came from charges for financial services, newspaper deliveries and international transactions, Magyar Posta spokesman Tamas Tomecsko told Napi Gazdasag.

Magyar Posta – a service to be proud of?

Despite anecdotal evidence to the contrary, Magyar Posta claims it provides a good service, one that brought in a pre-tax profit of Ft5 billion (USD26.73 million) in 2004. Companies contacted by The Budapest Sun, however, tell a different story: one of sending invites out ever earlier or assuming they will go astray. Tamás Tomecskó, spokesman for Magyar Posta Rt, told The Budapest Sun that very few letters “go astray” and are delayed. “Last year we had some problems with our new mail processing and distribution in Budaörs, but there have been very few problems since then,” he said.
