Hungarian Post CEO sees no chance for privatisation
The pre-tax income of the state-owned Hungarian Post will likely reach HUF 5.1 billion this year, which is HUF 3 billion more than planned and exceeds last year’s figure by HUF 2 billion, CEO Pal Szabo announced.
The Post recorded revenues of HUF 104 billion in the first eight months of 2004, and expects to reach HUF 155 billion by the end of the year, HUF 15 billion more than a year earlier and also above the company’s business plan.
Szabo also declared that he sees no chance for the Post’s privatisation in the coming 3-4 years, neither to a financial nor a strategic investor. The market of postal services will be liberalised as of 2009, from which date any EU-based company active in postal services may operate in Hungary as well.

State-owned Magyar Posta Rt has announced a pre-tax profit of Ft3 billion (D14.56 million) for 2003, Ft1 billion (D4.85 million) higher than expected and a huge improvement from a Ft9.08 billion (D44 million) loss suffered in 2002, according to CEO Pál Szabó.
He added that operating profits were Ft5 billion (D24.27 million) versus 2002’s operating loss of Ft7.05 billion (D34.22 million).

Hungary will increase the price of postal services by an average 10 percent from March 16, the Ministry of Telecommunications said.
The price hike will affect all types of postal services, but not telecom fees, which are regulated separately and don’t fall under the authority of post office Magyar Posta.
