Moroccan Post Office turnover rises in 2002

The turnover achieved by “Barid Al-Maghrib”, Moroccan post authority, reached in 2002 1.09bn [Moroccan] dirhams (117.6m US dollars), which is a rise of 2 per cent compared to the figures of 2001.

The figures were released by Barid Al-Maghrib general manager during the company’s administrative board meeting. He also said the state-owned company’s financial results are on the rise.

Emirates Post signs postal agreements with Morocco, Algerian and Tunisia

Emirates Post recently signed agreements with the postal authorities of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia for handling money transfer, parcels and the Mumtaz service between the UAE and the three countries. The agreements were signed during a visit by a high level delegation led by Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, to the three countries, as part of Emirates Post’s strategy to enhance postal cooperation and explore further business opportunities in the region.

Arab countries agree to develop cooperation in postal services

Abdullah Ibrahim Al Daboos, Emirates Post’s Director General, has revealed a set of recommendations and resolutions adopted by the Arab Ministers of Communications during the Arab Cabinet Ministers’ meeting recently held in Casablanca.

The new resolutions and recommendations are meant to develop mutual cooperation with respect to the postal services.

A top UAE national delegation headed by Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of Communica-tions, visited Morocco last week.

Al Daboos said the cabinet ministers agreed on reducing Express Mail (EMS) transactions fees of Arab Postal Corporations. To help Arab corporations compete in the market, the charge of each dispatch is now set at Dh12.92 instead of Dh18.45 previously in place.

DHL signs deal with MzDitel

International express delivery company DHL has signed a partnership deal with MZditel in Morocco concerning the transmission of delivery data collected by DHL agents via MZditel’s GSM network. The system works by the agent’s pocket computer automatically sending a request to the agent’s MZditel telephone to be connected to DHL’s database. Once connected, all the pocket computer’s information is transferred to DHL’s world-wide network. Requests to retrieve a parcel can be sent back to the agent within five to ten minutes. Senders will also be able to track their packages on the web site. DHL chose MZditel for the operation, the first of its kind in Africa, because the network covers the whole country.
