DHL set to open USD1.5m airport facility in Pasay

As part of the first phase of its investment program, air express company DHL will open its newly refurbished airport gateway facility in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City in September. DHL Express Philippines country manager Charles Brewer yesterday said the refurbishment of the nearly one-hectare facility is estimated to have cost between USD1.5 million and USD2 million. “We have completely renovated the facility. We are opening it on Sept. 24. We have the state-of-the-art IT equipment and new customs offices,” he said, in a talk with reporters. Mr. Brewer said DHL is already preparing for the second phase of its investment program, which could include the opening of more service centers. However, the location of new service centers would depend on customer demand.

Philippine Postal Corp to issue P5 Billion worth of bonds to raise funds for its modernization program

State-Owned Philippine Postal Corp. plans to issue P5 billion worth of bonds this year to raise funds to finance its modernization program and pare down debt. Postmaster General Diomedio Villanueva said in a telephone interview yesterday that the state agency was in the process of selecting a financial adviser and lead underwriter for the bond issue. Eight to nine financial institutions have submitted proposals to handle the bond issue, he said.

Despite Delays, PhilPost Claims Delivery at Intl Standards

The finances of state-owned Philippine Postal Corp. continued to deteriorate last year, posting a net loss of P199 million, up 342 percent from only P45 million in 2000.

Philpost attributed this to a decline in revenues — from P3.429 billion to P3.411 billion — and the escalation of operating expenditures, particularly on transportation services for both domestic and international mails.

Despite Philpost’s modernization efforts, the company is still swamped with complaints from customers about mail that arrive late or those that are not delivered at all.

But Philpost claims its mail delivery performance remains within acceptable international standards.
