The Ministry of Energy,
Communications and Multimedia has granted Pos Malaysia Bhd (POS) a new
34-year Postal Services Licence late last month. The licence awarded on July 24, 2001 covers a period of 34 years, expiring July 23, 2035.
ALL functions and duties of the Director-General of Post and the
Postal Department will be taken over by the Energy, Communications
and Multimedia Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and
Multimedia Commission. Tabling the Postal Services (Amendment) Bill 2001, Deputy Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho said the
ministry would handle the planning and policy-making functions and
the Commission would be empowered to perform all functions and
duties of the director- general.

would be using a new system for its registered post service. Senior
general manager for Pos Malaysia Mail Business, Abdul Malik
Ahmad Shazili, said the new system aimed at faster service would be
using a computer tracking system, replacing the previous manual
system.
