Posten Sweden announces structural adjustments, renewal expenditures

“Mail volume has steadily declined since the mid-1990s. Today, the mail terminals are beset by overcapacity. Against the backdrop of Posten’s current financial situation, coupled with expectations of a continuing drop in mail volume, action must be taken to control costs,” says Bertil Nilsson, head of Posten Production. The Norrköping terminal will be phased out over a one-year period beginning October 2003. Posten will begin phasing out the Växjö terminal next year; the process will by completed by 2005 at the latest. Other measures will be implemented no later than 2005 to achieve peak annual savings of about SEK225 million.

Posten Buys Remaining Part of Direct Link Worldwide

Posten, Sweden’s national postal service, said yesterday that it acquired Post Denmark’s 50 percent interest in Direct Link Worldwide NV and will make it a wholly owned subsidiary. Posten said the acquisition will allow it to compete better in the international mail markets and bring Direct Link’s strength and globalization to Swedish companies looking to go international.

Posten Sweden announces new chairman and new CEO

Posten, Sweden’s national postal service, today announced that Marianne Nivert has been named the new chairman of Posten. Effective May 1, 2003, Erik Olsson is the new President and CEO of Posten. Claes Ånstrand will step down as chairman of Posten at the Annual General Meeting on April 25, 2003. The Annual General Meeting will appoint Telia’s former CEO, Marianne Nivert, as the company’s new chairman. Ms. Nivert joined Posten’s board in December 2002.
