Amazon UK success helped by Royal Mail's overnight delivery

It was fascinating to read Jeff Bezos explaining why Amazon.com was successful in Britain (How to turn over a new leaf, February 9). “In the UK the Royal Mail does a fantastic job of overnight delivery to something like 85% of UK addresses and that’s just standard shipping. Here you have to pay expensive UPS or Fedex shipping to get overnight service.”

Management wailing about the regulator (the clearest indication that Corbett and Co are doing a good job) and private operators ‘cherry picking’ bulk mail is the last desperate excuse of a management that has failed to pay any attention to one of its biggest and wealthiest customers – the direct mail industry.

Postal workers vote in favour of strike

Britain’s postal workers voted Thursday in favor of striking to back demands for a pay increase, though no dates have been set for a walkout.
Members of the Communication Workers Union employed by the Royal Mail voted 63 percent in favor of a strike. Sixty-five percent of the union’s 145,000 postal members took part in the ballot.

'YES' strike vote in Post Office

Members of the Communication Workers Union have voted overwhelmingly to support an executive council recommendation to take strike action over Royal Mail pay. 145,000 ballot papers were sent out to members and the results were as follows. here was a 65 per cent return 63 per cent voted in favour of taking industrial action 37 per cent voted against.
