Correios de Portugal gains tender in Serbia

Portuguese postal operator CTT – Correios de Portugal has won the international tender launched by Serbia for the development of a strategy for the improvement of the country’s postal services, Portuguese business daily Diario Economico reported on February 15, 2006. Under the terms of the tender CTT will examine the weak points of the postal services in Serbia. The process will be carried out by Portuguese specialists and will cost 60,000 euro (UD71,000). On the basis of the gathered information, CTT will elaborate the plan for the improvement, whose implementation will cost 200,000 euro (UD238,000).

Serbian parliament completes debate on bill on postal services

The Serbian parliament completed Monday its debate in principle on the bill on postal services, which introduces market competition and liberalization and envisages the creation of an agency for postal services and integration in the European PTT system. All parliamentary parties except the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) supported the bill, describing it as revolutionary as regards competition, as it should lead to lower prices and better quality of service.

TNT Express launches new road services to Serbia

TNT Express has announced a further expansion to its European Road Network (ERN). They are now offering a new daily service to Belgrade, Serbia which becomes the 32nd country to join the ERN. The route connects the Serbian capital to the other 31 countries and 522 depots in the ERN via major hubs in Vienna and Timisoara.

Serbia: Postal service workers join Telekom Serbia strike

Belgrade, 24 September: The Telekom Serbia workers who have been
on strike for seven days now have been joined today by PTT
Serbia [Serbian postal service] workers, Beta was told by Zoran
Mrvaljevic, chairman of Telekom Serbia’s trade union. He said that the strike had begun in all post offices, and added
that during the strike the minimum work process would be
observed.
