GLS launches new delivery services in Belgium and Slovenia

GLS has introduced new delivery services in Belgium and Slovenia to extend its product range and improve its customer service.
In Belgium, GLS launched the new Express-Parcel service providing nationwide delivery the next day by 17:00. Shippers receive a free of charge delivery confirmation either via sms or e-mail. In addition, customers can choose between several time-definite options including 10:00-Service, 12:00-Service, Saturday 12:00-Service and 9:00-Service for some regions.
The new express service is integrated into the GLS Belgian standard delivery system of parcels strengthened through a few additional drivers and vehicles.
In Slovenia, GLS has expanded its service portfolio with two new additional services, the DayDefinite-Service and Addressee Only-Service.
With the day-definite service, the customer can choose a date for the shipment to be delivered. The Adressee Only-Service ensures that a parcel will be handed over to the indicated recipient only by verifying the person’s identity. This is to avoid, for example, that pharmaceuticals or important documents fall into wrong hands. If the recipient is not available, the driver will try to deliver the parcel again the next day.
It is also possible to combine the additional services with the basic delivery products including Express-Parcel, Business-Parcel or Business Small-Parcel comprising a total of 13 different options.

The Express-Parcel service offers guaranteed delivery by 17:00 the next day. Customers can also select earlier, time-definite delivery. Evaluation of Q-Post project to be conducted

An evaluation of the ongoing Q-Post project of connecting the branch offices to the postal corporation’s IT network would be carried out soon.

This was decided at a meeting between Q-Post chairman Ali Mohamed al-Ali and chairman of international relations of Slovenian Post Jan Koehler at General Post Office yesterday. Koehler is the Universal Postal Union (UPU) official overseeing the improvement of the country’s ongoing postal projects.

Announcing the plans, Q-Post chairman said the corporation would utilise fully the share it had received from the UPU’s terminal use fund for improving the services of the corporation.

The UPU share of 7 pct for postal improvement would be allotted to all postal corporations. As per a UPU agreement, the money that the UPU allots for postal projects comes from the advanced industrialised countries. The fund is provided to finance the administering of projects until 2012. Each country has a national co-ordinator to oversee the ongoing projects.

For the improvement of services Jan Koehler suggested the training of postal staff. He said the movement of staff to other sectors in search of better opportunities would jeopardise the implementing of postal projects.

Al-Ali briefed the Slovenian official of the steps the Q-Post had undertaken to improve the postal services in Qatar. The electronic-linked developments at the corporation were also discussed.

The Slovenian official also held talks with Q-Post IT manager George Scott Campbell.

Cooperation with Adria Airways: time:matters Integrates the Slovenian Capital Ljubljana into its Sameday Route Network

Effective December 1, 2007 time:matters, the expert for courier, sameday and emergency logistics which belongs to the Lufthansa group, will cooperate with the Slovenian airline Adria Airways. The airline, which is based in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, is as the country’s largest and most significant airline, a member of the “Star Alliance” carrier network. With the new partnership, time:matters expands its route network that encompasses around 400 destinations in 90 countries to Ljubljana Airport (airport-code: LJU). Thus southeast Central Europe gains a quick direct connection to the international logistics network of the provider that specializes in especially reliable “high-speed” solutions. This will result in advantages not only for companies that have particularly urgent shipments to send to or from Slovenia – the companies based in neighboring Austria or its bordering country Slovakia will benefit from the new sameday hub at the nearby Ljubljana Airport as well.

Due to the agreed cooperation between Adria Airways and time:matters, the Greater Ljubljana/Vienna/Bratislava area is practically moving closer to numerous economic centers both in Europe and around the world. The integration of Adria’s flight plan into time:matters’ sameday route network means for example that important components or spare parts can be flown directly from Ljubljana to Vienna four times a day or to Zurich three times a day – so that they usually reach their recipient within just a few hours after dispatch. Up to now such express deliveries often first had to be transported from Slovenia to Graz Airport by car, causing the loss of valuable time. Since flights from Ljubljana also fly to the important transit airports in Frankfurt and Munich several times a day, express shipments to destinations outside of Europe can in many cases also be realized “sameday.”
