Slovenia's Aerodrom Ljubljana To Build 3.0 Mln Euro Terminal for DHL

Aerodrom Ljubljana, operator of the international airport of Slovenia’s capital, said on Thursday it will build a three million euro (USD3.8 million) terminal which it will let to the Slovenian unit of German-based global courier firm DHL. The construction of the new terminal is scheduled to be completed in 15 months and DHL will be able to carry out all of its operations in it, Aerodrom Ljubljana said in a statement.

Post of Slovenia preparing for market liberalisation

Slovenia’s state-run postal service is still preparing its privatisation strategy, which is to be decided on by the government after it is confirmed by the company’s supervisors, the chairman of the Post of Slovenia Ales Hauc said in an interview for STA. According to Hauc, the Post is well prepared for the liberalisation of postal services market, which is to take place by 2009.

Slovenia Post Chairman calls for two-phase privatisation

The chairman of Slovenia’s state-run postal service has said that the company should be privatised in two steps, with a strategic owner allowed to buy 49% of the company within seven years. “If our proposal is approved by the government, a strategic partner will be allowed to buy 24% of the Post within two years, with the option to increase the stake to 49% after five years,” Ales Hauc told the daily Dnevnik on Monday, 27 February. According to Hauc, the Post of Slovenia has held talks with Swiss, Austrian, Belgian, French and German postal services on a possible partnership. He also said that the company was looking to make an acquisition of its own as part of the privatisation process. The Post has been in negotiations with the Macedonian postal service on cooperation and a possible takeover, Hauc told Dnevnik.

Austria Post and TNT are evaluating co-operation in Slovenia

Considering economies of scale, Austrian Post has decided to change its strategy in the Slovenian parcel market towards a partnership model. Austrian Post and TNT are currently engaged in negotiating a respective agreement. This agreement is expected to be signed by year end.
Anton Wais, CEO of Austrian Post: „Our current business strategy for parcel logistics in South Eastern Europe requires a flexible approach that can be tailored individually to local market environments. In a small market like Slovenia bundling of resources is crucial and therefore we give preference to a co-operation model.“
