Spanish MRW Turnover Up to 207.2 Mln Euro H1 2003

Spanish express courier MRW, in Catalonia region, northeastern Spain, generated a turnover of 207.2 mln euro ($233.3 mln) for the first half of 2003, an 11.9 pct year-on-year increase, the company said on August 13, 2003.

The company opened 13 new franchises and their total number rose to 676 at the end of June 2003. MRW increased the number of logistics platforms by two newly built reaching a total of 24 at the end of June 2003.

Unipost Plans Expansion in Spain

Spanish postal service group Unipost will invest 27.3 mln euro ($30.5 mln) in expansion through purchase of companies throughout Spain by 2005, it was reported on July 16, 2003. The company plans an extensive promotional campaign of its services in the next years. The objective of Unipost is to face its largest competitor, Spanish postal service group Correos. Unipost, which currently comprises 12 postal service operators, plans to integrate the 180 private companies existing in Spain in 2009, when the total liberalisation of the Spanish postal service is expected.

ePLDT, DataPost, Spring Sign JV in Philippines

ePLDT, the information and communications technology company of telecommunications giant PLDT, recently signed a joint venture agreement with DataPost Pte., Ltd., and Spring to provide printing and enveloping services in the Philippines. The new Manila-based company will be called ePDS, Inc. It will provide laser printing and enveloping services for statements, bills and invoices, and other value-added services to companies in the Philippines.

Correos faces series of fines for unfair competition

Correos, the Spanish post office, is facing a barrage of fines and investigations over alleged unfair competition. On Tuesday, the state postal operator was fined 5.4m euros by the Spanish competition court for having allegedly blocked the entry of the operators Suresa and Mail House into the postal network by imposing unfair conditions on them.

Spanish Nacex Opens Logistics Platforms in Seville, Vitoria

Spanish express delivery firm Nacex, a subsidiary of logistics company Logista, has opened two new logistics platforms in Seville and Vitoria, in southwestern and northern Spain respectively, the company said on June 16, 2003.

Nacex has also expanded its facilities in Jaen and Valencia, southern and eastern Spain. The investments in the new facilities and the expansion of already existing ones totalled 1.0 mln euro ($1.2 mln), the company said.

Nacex, founded in 1995, has currently a network of 249 agencies and 14 logistics platforms, which offer a geographic coverage of Spain, Andorra and Portugal.
