Three Irish hauliers have joined forces to provide a guaranteed next-day delivery service between the UK and Southern Ireland. Roadferry, CW Transport and Target Transport, trading under the name of London Irish Express, are able to provide the service through their membership of Palletline.

Consignia to go in Royal Mail rebrand

Senior executives at the UK’s postal service have decided to replace the much-maligned Consignia brand with the name Royal Mail Group.
The company is keen to finally cut its ties with one of the most unpopular brands in UK corporate history.
Top Consignia managers, led by chairman Allan Leighton, are meeting today (Wednesday) to finalise the decision, which comes much sooner than expected.
Although Leighton had already made plain his intention to ditch the Consignia name, there was speculation that the government-owned plc would simply revert to being called the Post Office.

Cranleigh expands home delivery

Cranleigh Freight Services is expanding its home delivery business with the launch of a new division named Direct Home Delivery. It is investing in IT systems including “retail eye” software that provides the ability to link directly with customers’ order processing systems and enabling retailers to quote delivery times to their customers at the point of sale. Cranleigh already operates a home delivery service for MFI.

British Regulator Issues Three More Licences

The UK’s postal regulator said on Wednesday it had issued three further one-year interim postal service licences as part of plans to open state-owned Consignia’s market to competition. In a statement, Postcomm said it had awarded the licences to Securicor Omega Express [Surrey, UK], Datarun [London] and London Underground Ltd [London], following a 30-day consultation period.
