Amazon to open fifth logistics centre in Spain

Amazon will open a new 8,000 sq. m delivery station delivery station in Trapagaran, Northern Spain this summer and will work with two independent delivery companies.

The new station will serve the Bilbao area and the independent delivery companies will hire more than 60 drivers who will collect parcels from the delivery station and deliver them to Amazon customers in the Bilbao area.

This is Amazon’s fifth logistics centre in Spain, following the launch of a centre in San Fernando de Henares in Madrid in 2012–a year after the launch of Amazon.es–.

Over the last seven years, the company has opened three other fulfilment centres located in the Barcelona area, in El Prat, Martorelles and Castellbisbal, as well as one in Getafe (Madrid) and the latest one in Illescas (Toledo). Furthermore, Amazon is operating two urban fulfilment centres in Madrid and Barcelona to provide ultra-fast deliveries to its Prime customers in these cities through its Prime Now service; as well as the eight delivery stations located across the country to strengthen delivery services for customers and sellers.

“We are excited to open a delivery station in Trapagaran where Amazon’s 20+ years of operational expertise, technology advancements and investment to add capacity and flexibility to our delivery network, enabling faster delivery for customers than ever before,” said John Tagawa, VP EU Amazon.
