French La Poste to begin launch of new sorting centres in 2007

French postal operator La Poste is to open the first of a series of new, highly mechanised sorting centres in the eastern region of Lorraine in 2007. The new centre, based on what has been dubbed the most modern sorting technology in Europe, will be placed midway between Metz and Nancy to replace existing sorting centres in those two cities.

La Poste plans to invest 3.4bn euros to build 20 such centres, to replace 130 older centres, by 2010, when France’s postal sector will be opened to market competition.
