Topping the bill

Australia post has built its first ‘Biller branded’ internet bill payment system for the Australian Gas Light company (AGL).
The 3.1 million customers of AGL, one of the country’s largest energy suppliers, in selected parts of the country can now pay their bills on-line directly from the AGL web site as well as the POSTbillpay internet portal.
Australia Post group manager, financial services, terry Stephens said this was the first time Australia post has used its internet bill payment experience to deliver a biller-branded facility in this way. “we can now offer customers another payment solution that extends beyond over the counter, telephone and via the internet thorough the POSTbillpay brand,” he explained.
AGL’s internet payment facility is built on the Postbillpay infrastructure and enables customers to pay their bills by clicking onto bill payment options on the AGL web site. A confirmation of payment and reference number is issued once payment is submitted. The system went live after less than six weeks in development.
“for AGL the benefit of this new system is we are able to provide more choice to our customers so they can pay bills on line directly via the AGL web site. We have also been able to extend this option to our customers much faster and more economically by working with Australia Post,” commented AGL’s general manager marketing and residential sales,
John Huggart.
